Required supplies to be brought by students/attendees:

All consideration has been given to the student’s expense for supplies.  The list provided is therefore limited to those supplies needed as a minimum.  Substitutions are listed to accommodate procurement AND any suitable substitute already in the student’s possession will be accepted (we will make it work); by all means do NOT go to the expense of purchasing lots of materials if you already have a cache that can be used.

  • 8 x 10 pad of 140lb (min.) cotton rag paper: blocks are acceptable, free sheets are too (but be sure to have at least 3-4 sheets in the size specified or larger).
  • water bucket with two chambers or 2 small, deep containers
  • reusable plastic watercolor palette with ample room for mixing/thinning
  • roll of paper towels
  • roll of blue masking tape
  • artists board for attaching paper prior to painting

Brushes: (synthetics are fine)

  • 3/4 or 1 inch flat (or filbert) watercolor brush
  • #8 round
  • #6 flat (or filbert)
  • #1 scripter or striper
  • soft lead pencil (#2 or softer)
  • kneaded eraser
  • small natural sponge

Pigments: (professional grade preferred), .17 fluid oz. tubes

Required:

  • Prussian blue (Pthalo as substitute)
  • Quinacridone Gold (Transparent orange as substitute)
  • Quinacridone Rose (Alizarine Crimson as substitute)
  • Yellow ochre
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Permanent Magenta (Mauve as substitute)
  • Cadmium Yellow Light (New Gamboge as substitute)

Optional:

  • Burnt Umber (Van Dyke brown as substitute)
  • Veridian Green
  • Cadmium Red Medium (Vermillion as substitute)
  • Ultramarine
